CP Radhakrishnan Ready to Lead as Vice President (Social media)
National News: The newly elected Vice President of the country, CP Radhakrishnan, will take the oath of office and secrecy at 10 am today at Rashtrapati Bhavan. President Draupadi Murmu will administer the oath to him in this formal ceremony. Many senior leaders and dignitaries, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, will be present on this occasion.
Radhakrishnan defeated opposition candidate B. Sudarshan Reddy in the election held this week. Out of a total of 781 MPs, 767 cast their votes. Of these, 452 votes were cast in favor of Radhakrishnan, while Reddy got 300 votes. In this way he won with a clear majority.
Radhakrishnan has now become the 15th vice president of the country. This election was held after the sudden resignation of former Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar on July 21. The post has been vacant since Dhankhar's resignation.
After the result was announced, Prime Minister Modi congratulated Radhakrishnan. He said that the newly elected vice president will play an important role in enhancing the dignity of the Constitution and making the proceedings of Parliament more effective.
Before being elected vice president, Radhakrishnan was the governor of Maharashtra. He resigned from this post on Thursday. The order issued by Rashtrapati Bhavan said that Gujarat Governor Acharya Devvrat has been given additional charge.
Radhakrishnan will now face the challenge of running the proceedings of the Rajya Sabha smoothly. There is often a sharp tussle between the government and the opposition in the upper house. In such a situation, his balanced attitude and experience as the chairman will come in handy.
